Putting a Premium on Protection - The Kinds of Insurance

By Berto Suarez

The fear of any kind of loss has been great since the beginning of time. And this has given rise to the foundations of what's known as insurance. The ancient people have had institutions similar to today's insurance and although some losses are simply irredeemable no matter how much money you pay the insured party or beneficiaries (such as the loss of a limb or loved one), having insurance is now popular and at times even required. In the end, perhaps, every little bit of piece of mind counts.

Any risk that can be quantifiable can be covered by insurance. An agreement manifested in an 'insurance policy' sets out in detail which perils will be covered under the policy and which will not. Here are some of the more usual kinds of insurance:

Health Insurance- These kinds of policies promise to pay the cost of private medical treatments. The result of this is quicker health care where facilities are better.

Disability Insurance- This kind of insurance provides financial support in case the policy holder cannot work in the event of serious injury or illness. It can also allow business owners the possibility to cover the overhead expenses of their business while they cannot work and replaces wages lost because of work-related insurance.

Casualty Insurance- This is not tied to any specific property but protects specifically against accidents. Included within this are political risk and crime insurance.

Life Insurance- This kind of insurance provides a monetary benefit to a decedent's family or other specified beneficiaries. It can also provide income and payment for burial, funeral and other final expenses.

Property Insurance- Property insurance is perhaps the most popular kind of insurance. It includes the widely common auto insurance which protects cars from accidents. It also contains marine, crop and builder's insurance with other countless kinds. They are usually protected from fire, theft, accident and weather threats.

There are other kinds of insurance which can make a difference in the confidence with which you face the world. Auto insurance can keep you from extravagant costs when you incur an accident.
