Being Secured After Retirement

By Francisco Segura

Surely planning for any eventuality regarding your health is a wise decision; although you may never need critical health insurance, it is preferable to have it an not use it than the opposite! After all, you are providing for the financial needs of your family in the future if something untoward happens where you will no longer be around to help them in person.

Insurance providers, acting on the statistical information they receive from research institutes now offer this type of protection to every one of their customers.

Studies have highlighted the problem with almost one man in five by the time they retire having a serious medical condition. The studies only provide women with a little better chance with one in six having serious health problems by the time they stop work.

When asked, the majority of people surveyed claimed they were either unaware of critical illness insurance or they just did not believe they needed it. Although this type of protection is taken out for many reasons, the majority of people use it to protect their mortgage repayments but these days, critical illness cover and life insurance can be linked directly with mortgage repayments.

Since the advent of the Internet as a marketing and sales tool, insurance companies have promoted their products online and in recent years there has been an increase in online insurance applications. In a rush to provide this type of health coverage, many details are not looked into fully and a number of problems have arisen from attempting to do this online. Understandably, insurance providers want to see physical proof that the applicant does not have any outstanding conditions before they arrange the coverage. Claimants also need to know that if they do make contact to their critical illness insurance provider that they will be listened to with a sympathetic ear.

Some groups of individuals fall into high risk categories like those who smoke for example and can be expected to pay more for their cover. Whilst smoking is considered a serious risk to a person's health, there are other considerations that are taken into account; for instance the work or pastime may be dangerous, you may be in poor health generally or age may be against you.

Of course, no-one can underestimate just how much the financial assistance critical illness insurance can provide for a person who has a terminal illness. No person can guarantee that they will always be there for their family but insurance plans are one way to ease the burden if you are diagnosed with a critical medical condition
